THIS IS NOT A TEST

By Matthew Hadis

Most people know that I like motorcycles. I belong to several Internet groups who's topic deals with motorcycles. A few weeks ago, a question was posed by one of the members asking if it was OK for him to remove some of the safety padding inside his helmet so that it fit his head better.

One of the technicians in our group joked that it would be fine to modify his factory helmet as long as he only rode his bike with his 'Test Head'.

We all had a good laugh at the suggestion of a 'Test head'. Oddly enough though, this notion stayed with me and amused me. It's at times like this that I wonder if God is whispering in my ears that there may be some value to my friends joke.

It occurs to me that many of us tend to go through this life as if it's our 'test life'. I think one thing that allows us to live a 'test life' is that awful word 'SOMEDAY'... Someday is the word we say in conjunction with something we want to do with our life but don't think we have the energy or the strength of will to carry through with. "Someday I will climb that mountain. Someday I will quit smoking. Someday I will loose weight, go on that vacation, spend more time with my children, weed the garden, create that work of art, etc., etc., etc." You can insert your own 'Someday' intention I am sure. We all have 'somedays' in our 'test lives' but unfortunately, for the most part, that's where they stay.

It would be a wonderful thing if at some point in our lives, we are able to check all our 'someday' wishes off this list. I don't think that's impossible either if you trust in God's help. Where else do you suppose your 'Someday' list came from? After all, God put you here on earth with the intention that you grow in every way you can. If that wasn't the way he wanted it, we would remain as children all our lives but that's clearly not the case. It's obvious that God wanted us to grow physically, mentally, and spiritually. He gave us all different talents and gifts and strengths and left it up to us to use what he gave us. He gave us this wonderful planet full of resources and he gave us all the wonderful people we meet to help us and be helped by us in return.

If you want to 'Someday' stop smoking or loose weight or attain ANY goal you set for yourself in this life that will BETTER you and help you to GROW, you already have everything you need to accomplish this. God provides! God doesn't want us to live a 'test life' here on earth. All you need to do is ask for a little help. How do ask? Through simple, honest prayer. God already knows your voice when he hears it regardless of how often you speak to him.

Just remember, this is NOT a test.
